Underground cables burnt in Kozhikode
KOZHIKODE: Some miscreants burnt the underground power cables of KSEB in four different locations in the town on Tuesday, which resulted in power failure in five banks on Cherootty Road. The power supply to Anakkulam, Tagore Hall and premises was also disrupted. The KSEB and police officials suspected a conspiracy behind the incident as the maximum number of banks are located in the area. City Police Commissioner Uma Behra, who visited the spot, said that a probe would be conducted into the matter.
Apart from the transformers near Nalanda auditorium and Town police station, the wires of Ring Main Unit (RMU) were also burnt. The KSEB estimated a loss of nearly Rs 22 lakh. The underground cables abandoned by the railway authorities and its switching systems were also burnt. All these cables were lying close to the railway track and the probe team suspected a sabotage bid. KSEB officials said the power supply for domestic-business needs would be shifted back to the electric posts to fix the problem. It might take months to restore the supply through underground cables, they added. The incident is being probed by Town CI P.M. Manoj and principal SI E.K. Shiju.
