Hyderabad firm to conduct Capital Regional Development Programme II survey
Thiruvananthapuram: The government has entrusted a Hyderabad-based firm to conduct environmental assessment and social impact assessment surveys to decide alignment of a new corridor under the phase II Capital Regional Development Programme (CRDP). The 55km ‘outer area growth corridor’ that starts from the northern periphery of the city at Mangalapuram will pass through the eastern edge of Andoorkonam, Vattappara, Aruvikkara, Ooruttambalam and Balaramapuram before joining the NH bypass at Vizhinjam. The company named IIDC (formerly IL&FS) has already started the topography survey to decide the corridor alignment.
The corridor will have its logistical zone at Mangalapuram and Ooruttambalam. An extension of Technocity will be set up at Andoorkonam which will get an IT and ITES zone. There will also be a media and entertainment zone. Those who need rehabilitation as a part of the project will be allotted space at Residential zones. “The corridor will connect all important highways and state roads. The corridor will pass through 55 per cent green field and 45 per cent brown field to keep eviction down to a minimum,” an official statement said. The aim of the company will be to make a detailed design of the corridor and conduct impact studies.
