Currency crunch begins to ease up in Thrissur
Thrissur: The situation in banks at Thrissur has eased a bit according to RBI's lead bank officer R.R. Kanakambaran. However he said that it would take nearly two weeks for banks to get back at normalcy after the arrival of new series of Rs 500 notes and recalibrating ATMs for dispensing Rs 2,000 notes. For the first time in Thrissur, the ATM at e-lobby at SBI Main Office at Naduvilal on Swaraj Round, was recalibrated to dispense Rs 2,000 on Tuesday.
The technicians of the agency to which ATM loading works were outsourced worked on the machine for more than a hour and made adjustments to the inner side of the cassettes in which the new Rs 2,000 notes were loaded. The ATM then dispensed Rs 2,000 denomination notes and Rs 100 notes. As in the last six days after demonetization of notes, this e-lobby ATM of SBI and that at SBT main branch near Paramekkavu Temple functioned all thorough the day and till 10 p.m. at night on Tuesday, till the notes loaded for the last time during office hours were emptied. Bank officers said both these ATMs will function in a similar way on the coming days and customers of all banks can visit these ATM counters.
