Srisailam dam waterfall' stuns visitors

Hundreds of visitors rushed to see sight of water plunging down the Srisailam dam.

Kurnool: Visitors flocked to the Srisailam dam to witness the descent of massive quantities of water from a great height, and to get drenched in its spray, on Sunday.

Pilgrims and tourists from Hyderabad, Kurnool and other parts of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana state had an enthralling experience at the dam. The overcast skies and the intermittent showers only added to the experience.

A visitor from Hyderabad said, “It was magical. The water was thundering down into the Krishna River.”

Mr Vishwanath Bhatt from Bengaluru said “I was walking along the Patalaganga path when I heard an unusual sound and felt a reverberation in the air. It transferred to the rocks beneath my feet and travelled through my body. I turned the corner and the source of the sound was revealed.”

In the midst of dense forests and the Nallamalai Hills, water plunging down the dam is a sight to behold. Dr Prahlad, a dentist from Hyderabad who was at the Dam, said, “It is a rare sight. I have never seen water falling like this. I caught a rare glimpse of the milky white water.”

This sight, however, may not last long. Of the seven gates that were open on Saturday, four were closed on Sunday when inflows to the dam reduced. An official said the operation of the gates was dependent on the flow of water into the dam.
