Report on Lake Palace Resort to seek changes

District Collector may ask the occupier (Lake Palace resort) to bring land in parking area to original form.

ALAPPUZHA; The District administration is expected to submit the full report in connection with Lake Palace Resort owned by transport minister Thomas Chandy on Monday. In order to prepare the report, the district administration had carried out a survey at Lake Palace Resort premises on Wednesday. The Survey team had submitted it to the collector. T.V. Anupama, the District Collector, had indicated earlier that she would be able to submit a full report by Monday. However, the contents of the report have not been revealed.

Earlier, in the interim report, the Collector had found encroachment by Lake Palace authorities in its parking area. The Collector, as per the Paddy and Wetland Conservation Act, is empowered to persuade the occupier to bring the land to original form. Hence, the Collector is expected to recommend government to bring the disputed land to its original form. As part of the evidence collection, the collector had carried out a hearing on October 4.

The hearing was conducted based on complaints against the resort alleging that it had levelled paddy fields for setting up parking ground, changed the direction of a water channel of Karuveli paddy field and constructing the Valiyakulam-Zero Jetty road for the use of resort using MP funds. However, the resort management had refuted the allegations and they informed the Collector that they had all the permissions and legal documents for the construction works conducted for the resort. They submitted the documents to the collector on October 4.
