Encourage Indian languages: Professor M L Narasimha Murthy
Tirupati: Sanskrit is root for all our Indian languages and everyone should think of uplifting our Sanskriti (culture) and Sanskrit, the mother of all Indian languages, stressed Prof. M.L. Narasimha Murthy, in-charge VC of Rastriya Sanskrit Vidyapeetha. The two-day Bharateeya Bhasha Sammelan being organised jointly by the Shiksha Sanskriti Uthhan, New Delhi and Rash-triya Sanskrit Vidyapeetha, Tirupati, was inaugurated on Saturday in RSV’s SBR Open Air Auditorium.
Delivering inaugural address, Prof. Narasimha Murthy reiterated that the language is nothing but coming out from the mouth of human body, which is called as 'Vaagrupa' and that is why one should have proficiency in his own language, that too in mother tongue. Union minister for Human Resource Development Prakash Javadekar through his video wished the Shiksha Sanskriti Uthhan Nyas will do all its efforts to see the importance of all Indian languages and do justice to the Mother tongue.
Atul Kothari, Secretary of Shiksha Samskriti Uthhan Nyas in his presidential speech explained that teaching one's mother tongue is essential, not simply in terms of emotions, but purely on scientific grounds. The medium of instruction in the top 20 countries with the highest GDP in the world is their own mother tongue, where as the medium of instruction in the countries with the lowest GDP is a foreign language, he said.
The programme started with an invocation by Convener Prof. Rani Sadasivamurthy said if system of education is modified, even the ideology and outlook of the people can also modified. Prof. Vrishab Jain, president of Bharateeya Bhasha Manch, Delhi and the guest of honour pointed out "In our country only 3 per cent of the population speaking English whereas 97 per cent speaking our Indian languages which are not given much importance. Hence, this should be curbed and our languages should be given much more importance."
Dr. Padma Pothukuchi, International Behavioural Psychologist from USA, delivering her keynote address said that upkeeping our Indian tradition and languages that too one's own mother tongue, is like a child who inherits and imbibe everything by him/her easily from the mother. The conference will highlight the 'mother tongue's importance, with a participation of more than 400 delegates from nook and corner of the country, which concludes on Sunday. The conference was attended by the faculty of vidyapeetha - Prof.O.Ramlal, Prof.C.Lalitarani, Dr.Nallanna, PTGR R. Acharya, Dr.Balichakravarthi, Dr.Leena Chandra and Dr.Srinivas Krishna. The conference was supervised by Prof.C.Umashankar, registrar of the vidyapeetha.
