Education Minister C Raveendranath hails Kerala universities
KANNUR: Indigenous knowledge production is required for the progress of the country and for the various development projects envisaged by the government for the overall progress of the society, opined Education Minister C. Raveendranath. He was addressing the gathering after laying the foundation stone for the Students Facility Centre of Kannur University at its headquarters at Thavakkara in Kannur on Friday. He opined that it is not the foreign universities, but our own universities are the ones which are capable of giving priority for research work which would benefit the society and country.
“Foreign universities’ names may evoke a special interest and students tend to show an affinity to such varsities. However, they are not going to give any importance for the research and development projects which would benefit our country,” he said. He opined that the universities should also work for improving the quality of life of people from all walks of life. “The state government is pledged to improve the quality of education imparted by the university. As a part of it, the government is considering to boost the infrastructure and other facilities in the universities by funding and also planning to create more posts,” he added.
Kannur University pro vice-chancellor Dr T. Asokan presided over the function. Kannur mayor E. P. Latha, P. K, Ragesh, MP, district panchayat president K. V. Sumesh, ward councilor Lisha Deepak, registrar Dr Balachandran Keezhoth, Development Officer Dr James Paul, syndicate members, staff union representatives among others were also present.
