At I-Day Celebrations, Vidadala Rajini Reads Out Vizag's Progress Card

Visakhapatnam: Marking the Independence Day celebrations here on Tuesday, health minister Vidadala Rajini gave a lengthy speech on the progress of Vizag district. The district in-charge minister narrated how much funds were allocated for the city.

“Vizag development is on the fast track. City roads have been improved. Tourism places like Kailasa Giri have been developed. Some '12.173 crore had been allocated to develop fisherman clusters. About '152 crore was given to develop the fishing harbour,” she said.

The 77th Independence Day celebrations were held at the Police Parade Ground. The minister unfurled the national flag and sang the national anthem. She took the salute of armed police. Various government departments exhibited 11 tableaus.

Marking Independence Day, certificates of appreciation were given to government employees who have rendered good service in the district. The GVMC tableau won the first prize while the education department tableau got the second prize and the DRDA and VMR DA tableau got the third prize. The animal husbandry department tableau received a consolation prize.

As part of the celebrations, cultural programmes were performed by government school children.

District collector Mallikharjuna, police commissioner ST Verma, joint collector Vishwanath, GVMC commissioner SSK Verma, MPs MVV Satyanarayana, legislators Tippala Nagireddy, Varudu Kalyani, VK Srinivas, Ravindra Babu, library chairman Konda Ramadevi, ACPs, public representatives, district officials and others were present.
