Anantapur GGH to get new blocks by 2023

ANANTAPUR: The Anantapur General Hospital and Medical College would have expansion and new buildings by December 2023, said incharge minister Peddiredy Ramachandra here on Monday.

The minister offered bhumi puja for expansion of the general hospital, at an estimated cost of `300 crore, mainly to build a maternal and children block on the site acquired from the R&B and Irrigation departments.

In the view of the swelling numbers of OPs and inpatients at GGH, the government has sanctioned additional beds and ordered expansion of GGH. The government allotted 8.32 acres of land of the Irrigation and R&B wings in front of the GGH main gate. The irrigation department offices including office of superintendent engineer of TB High Level Main Canal etc were given away to GGH for expansion of services while these departments have to shift their offices to alternative locations.

The GGH will have 1,200 beds against the present bed-strength of 560 beds, with a separate mother-children block and administrative buildings. The maternity and child health block will have 250 beds and plans are also to increase seats in UG and PG medicine courses at the medical college.

The minister appreciated the initiatives of MLA AV Reddy for development of the hospital and hoped the expansion works would be completed and the new blocks ready by December 2023.

“The Chief Minister has special care and interest in Anantapur. He was clear about fulfilling the needs including provision for HNSS water to the deserted area,” Ramachandra Redddy recalled.

He said the chief minister sanctioned `300 crore exclusively for hospital development in Anantapur.
