Kadapa city and towns in district to get greener
KADAPA: Andhra Pradesh Greening and Beautification Corporation has decided to plant 4,08,000 saplings in Kadapa city and nine municipalities of the district. It has already issued directions to this effect.
Central and state governments are paying special attention to environmental protection through promotion of greenery. Plants will be sown on a large scale during the current rainy season. District Water Management Authority (DWMA) has already set a target of planting 40 km of trees in each zone. In addition, 10,50,000 seed balls will be planted in the nearest forest areas in 29 zones of the district.
Apart from Kadapa city, tree plantation will be taken up in Proddatur, Mydukur, Pulivendula, Rayachoti, Badvel, Rajampet, Yerraguntla, Kamalapuram and Jammalamadugu municipalities. 4,08,000 saplings have been readied, including guava, custard apple, mango and parijatham, for planting along both sides of roads. Orders have been issued to complete planting by the end of October. People can also collect the plants on the basis of their Aadhaar card.
District Forest Officer (Social Forestry) Bandela Nagraj told Deccan Chronicle that under the employment guarantee programme, they have grown total 21 lakh plants at various nurseries in Kadapa, Proddatur and Rajampet forest divisions as well as Kadapa Social Forestry Division. DWMA officials will supply plants to the extent required.
