Steps taken to declare Pondicherry as heritage town

On the occasion the Chief Minister listed out some important projects underway in the state.

Puducherry: Puducherry celebrated 70th Independence Day with Chief Minister V. Narayanasamy unfurling the national flag at Indira Gandhi Sports Complex in Ouppalam here on Monday and inspected a guard of honour presented by the Puducherry armed police.

On the occasion the Chief Minister listed out some important projects underway in the state. Mr Narayanasamy said that the administration is taking all steps to develop Puducherry into a model tourist destination, and will change the UT a tourist destination throughout the week from the current status of week-end holiday destination.

“The government will ensure air and sea connectivity and develop railway services. Steps are being taken to declare Puducherry as a heritage town under Hriday scheme and proposal for '230 crore would be submitted to the Centre to develop the spiritual and heritage areas in all the four regions of the union territory under the Heritage circuit and Spiritual circuit” said Mr Narayanasamy.

Heritage areas will be renovated using Rs 17.05 crore provided under centrally sponsored ‘Swadesh Darshan’ programme and the seven coastal areas in the UT would be beautified utilising the second and third installment of '68.23 crore.
Mr Narayanasamy presented awards and medals to police personnel and achievers in various fields. Various contingents of police force, National Cadet Corps and school students conducted the march past.
