Kottayam: Two school children drowned when they went to take bath at a watery pit near a rock quarry at Panachikkad on Saturday evening. Sharon, 13, son of Johnny and Pranav, 13 Class VIII students of the NSS higher secondary school, Chingavanam drowned while taking bath in the pit.

The water in the pit was deep and filled in at least two acres. The police and the fire force officials reached the spot and retrieved the body of the children by evening.
