Jayalalithaa announces solatium to robbery attempt victims
Chennai: Days after two persons, including a young woman, were killed in a robbery attempt in Foreshore Estate in Chennai, Chief Minister J. Jayalalithaa condoled their death and announced a relief Rs 3 lakh each to their families.
In a statement, the Chief Minister said she was saddened by the news of the death of Ms Nandhini and Mr Sekar in the robbery attempt on the night of July 4 in Foreshore Estate in the city. “I convey my deepest condolences to the families of Ms Nandhini and Mr Sekar," she said in the statement, adding that she has ordered a solatium of Rs 3 lakh each for their families.
Ms Jayalalithaa also said she has instructed the health minister and social welfare minister to ensure that Najju, who was injured in the incident, gets proper treatment. Ms Jayalalithaa also announced Rs 1 lakh solatium to Najju.
The incident took place when 24-year-old teacher Nandhini and her cousin 19-year-old Najju alias A. Gayathri were chasing a youth on a motorbike who had robbed their handbag with cash of Rs 25,000. While Nandhini and Sekar, a retired state government employee, who was on an evening walk, were killed, Najju escaped with injuries.
