IS links: Missing youths from Kerala yet to be tracked

The officials are tight-lipped on whether the youngsters joined the IS or not.

KOZHIKODE: The intelligence agencies have not so far located the missing youths from the state who had moved to Iran. Cyber analysis of messages in WhatsApp and telegram and immigration documents indicate that the group had reached Iran. But the Iranian intelligence agencies have also failed to find out their whereabouts, it is learnt.

Over 20 persons from the state, including women and children, had allegedly left to join the IS, according to reports. Seventeen of them were from Kasargod. The officials are tight-lipped on whether the youngsters joined the IS or not. “We are trying to find out whether the youngsters crossed Iran border into Turkey through the north-eastern Iran border to join the IS camps or moved towards Iraq,” said an official.

Meanwhile, intelligence agencies are perusing the details of the phone calls made by the missing youngsters to their families and the cyber cell is on a research to identify the geographical locations of the messages. The investigation of the Special Investigation Team formed in Kasargod is limited only to collecting the details of contacts and linkages of the missing persons and their kith and kin. The tracking of the youngsters is done by the national agencies who are already working with their international counterparts, sources said.
