Chandi Homam performed at Rameswaram to drive away Coronavirus

Special \'Yaga Pooja\' and \'Paarayanam (recitations from holy verses) were also part of the observances in the adjacent hall

Rameswaram: A 'Chandi Homam', to drive away the 'evil' Covid-19 novel coronavirus and praying for world peace was performed in the strict Vedic tradition at the Shankara Mutt premises here on Tuesday.

Sources told DC, today being the auspicious occasion of 'Bhoumi Ashwini Punyakaalam', 36 'Vedic Pundits' under the leadership of the 'Vedic' scholar Sri Ananthapadmanabha Sarma, conducted the 'Yagam', an elaborate ritual involving the chanting of a lare number of Sanskrit Mantras.

The 'Sankalp' (objective) of the 'Chandi Homam' taken on the occasion was "Coronavirus which is crippling the people of the world should be banished from the face of the earth". Special 'Yaga Pooja' and 'Paarayanam (recitations from holy verses) were also part of the observances in the adjacent hall today.
The 'Homam' was undertaken under the advice of the Sankaracharya of the Kanchi Kamamkoti Peetam, Sri Shankara Vijayendra Saraswathi, the sources said.
