Regional passions flare again in Telangana Secretariat

TS employees held protests raising “Andhra employees go back†slogans.

Hyderabad: The allocation of AP-native staff to Telangana led to flaring up of regional passions in the Telangana Secretariat on Wednesday. TS employees held protests raising “Andhra employees go back” slogans.

They said a large number of AP-native employees have made it to key positions in TS Secretariat and demanded of the TS government not to give them postings and send them back to AP.

They pointed out that the Telangana statehood agitation was all about ensuring jobs for locals and there was no point in achieving statehood if they continued to work under AP staff.

The Kamalnathan committee, appointed by the Centre for bifurcation of state-cadre staff between AP and TS, had last week made a tentative allocation of 105 employees to TS Secretariat.

This 105 employees include section officers and assistant section officers who play a key role in movement of files and handle confidential information of government in all departments.

“This is totally unfair on the part of the committee to allot 105 employees who hail from AP region to TS Secretariat. Though 34 of these employees gave options choosing AP, the committee still allotted them to TS stating that there were vacancies in TS.

“How can the committee ignore the fact that there were also 34 vacancies in AP secretariat where they can be accommodated,” said Telangana Udyogula Sangham president A. Padma Chary. He said allotment of AP staff to TS would result in existing TS staff not getting promotions till AP staff retires.
