Chennai-Bengaluru double-decker train derails in Chittoor

TIRUPATI: A coach of a double-decker express train en route from Chennai to Bengaluru derailed at Bisanattam station in Gudipalli mandal of Chittoor district around 11.30 am on Monday. The alertness and swift reaction of the loco pilot played a vital role in averting any untoward incident following the derailment of the coach.

According to railway officials, no one was injured or suffered fatal injuries in the accident. Dr MGR Chennai Central-KSR Bengaluru Double Decker Express (Train No. 22625) was scheduled to arrive in Bengaluru at around 1.30 pm.

However, shortly after leaving the Bisanattam station, a set of wheels of a coach, second from the rear, derailed.

The train was immediately brought to a halt, allowing for an evaluation of the situation. According to authorities, a disaster was avoided due to the loco pilot's quick response. Senior personnel from the Bengaluru division went to the scene with an Accident Relief Train to repair the track.

All passengers in the coach that derailed were accommodated in other coaches, and the train proceeded to Bengaluru when the affected coach was detached.
The incident forced the temporary suspension of several trains on the Chennai-Bengaluru rail route, disrupting traffic flow. This sudden stoppage of services caused an unanticipated delay for several commuters, creating inconvenience.

For the convenience of travellers, the railway officials have set up help desks at KSR Bengaluru, Bengaluru Cantonment, and Bangarpet stations.
