BENGALURU: Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), which had hopes of making its foray into the Karnataka state assembly, failed miserably in the 2018 assembly polls. In fact their performance was so poor that in many constituencies they polled even less the none of the above (NOTA) category. The party's promise of a clean government and drive against corruption, which had worked in New Delhi, failed to cut much ice with voters.
Of the 10 candidates contesting in the city only one of them polled higher number of votes than NOTA - Renuka Vishwanathan contesting from Shantinagar got 2,658 votes, against 1,386 votes in favour of NOTA.
The party's National Executive and National Spokesperson Prithvi Reddy, who contested from Sarvagnanagar polled just 1,861 votes, while 2,405 went in favour of NOTA in that constituency.
Four of its candidates have just got three digit number votes. Siddagangaiah from Pulakeshinagar (301 votes), Syed Abbas from BTM Layout (701) and S.G. Sitaram from Basavanagudi (453).
Reddy told Deccan Chronicle that it was a washout for AAP. Then he went on to add, "Actually, washout is an under-statement."
