Kochi Smart City company to generate 10,000 jobs

The US-based Digital Energy will be the first company to be setting up their business in the proposed cluster.

KOCHI: The second phase of Smart City project in Kochi promoted by the Dubai-based Tecom Investment Ltd will see the setting up of a digital energy cluster that would generate 10,000 employment opportunities. The authorities of the Kochi Smart City informed that the digital cluster would be coming up in an area of 7.6 lakh sq ft.

The US-based Digital Energy will be the first company to be setting up their business in the proposed cluster. The cluster will be primarily engaged in collecting and analysing information connected with the exploration of oil in any part of the world.

The companies engaged in such an activity will also be having the capacity to control the process connected with the exploration of the oil companies. The Digital Energy, the first company to be set up in the cluster, alone is expected to provide 10,000 new employment opportunities, the Smart City authorities said after a board meeting held in Dubai on Sunday.

The second phase of the Smart City project is scheduled to be completed in two years. The third phase of the Smart City project, scheduled to be completed in 2020, will be launched next year.

With the completion of the third phase the Smart City complex in Kochi will be home to industries ranging from information technology, media, finance, research and analytics. The first phase of the Smart City project was completed few months ago. The board has expressed satisfaction over the progress of the work of the second phase of the project.
