Kerala bride votes in wedding finery, runs back to take her vows
Thiruvananthapuram: Every bride knows that her wedding day is one of the most stressful days of one’s life, with endless rituals, change of clothes, make-up sessions and a countless chain of relatives to deal with. Anu was already late for her appointment at the beauty salon on Monday morning, and once she was ready, the 25-year-old decided to make another stop before she took to the marriage venue – the polling booth.
Decked in a traditional golden sari and dazzling wedding jewellery, the young bride insisted she cast her ballot despite some reservations from family members that it would delay the marriage ceremony.
According to a report in NDTV, Anu dashed to a polling booth to cast her vote for the first time. "I am very happy and excited that I have been able to cast my first vote," she was quoted in the report.
Once she was done exercising her franchise, she proudly posed for photographs with her inked finger. She then ran to her car to head to the wedding venue which was almost an hour’s drive away.
A 2.61 crore strong electorate will be choosing their representatives from the 1203 candidates, including 109 women, who are in the fray in Kerala.
There are 21,498 regular polling stations and 148 auxiliary polling booths across the 140 assembly segments in the state.
