Hyderabadis band together to send essentials to quake-hit Turkey, Syria

HYDERABAD: As rescuers continue to race against time to retrieve survivors from the rubble of collapsed buildings in the harsh winter weather in earthquake-ravaged Turkey and Syria, which killed more than 41,000 people, Hyderabad is one of the cities that has been at the forefront of sending essential supplies.

Following the terrible earthquake, many people in Hyderabad moved by the situation in Turkey are coming together to aid in any way that they can and rushing supplies for the quake-affected people who are suffering from the biting cold and lack of food and shelter. People are showing up in big numbers at the Turkey Consulate Office in Jubilee Hills to contribute anything they can, including tent mattresses, sleeping bags, heaters, raincoats, jackets, blankets, shoes, and boots. In has to these supplies, Hyderabadis have sent to Turkey on Monday flasks, torches, power banks, diesel generators, diapers, sanitary/hygiene goods, and long-lasting food supplies like tinned and baby food.

The Youngistan Foundation, Fatima Old Age Home, Adnan Syed in Chandrayangutta, and the Madina Education Society in Shalibanda are just a few of the contribution collection organisations that have been receiving supplies for Turkey.

The Turkey Consulate in Hyderabad commended the city's residents for their overwhelmingly generous donations of relief supplies to the earthquake-devastated country at a time when many people are now homeless. After thanking everyone for their generosity, the officials of the Turkey Consulate have now requested for monetary donations. As a result, a few volunteers have been sending cash contributions to the official bank account of the Turkish Embassy in New Delhi. ((Account Name: Turkish Embassy - Earthquake INR Account, Acc. no. 409001919272, IFSC Code: RATN0000400, Bank name: RBL Bank, Branch name: Malcha Marg).

The Association of Muslim Professionals (AMP) donated Rs. 25 lakh to the Turkey Consulate in Hyderabad after starting a fundraising drive on their crowdsourcing website IndiaZakat.com. Syed Amer, the head of the AMP chapter in Hyderabad, announced that the group will now endeavour to raise another Rs 25 lakh towards the relief of the Syrian quake victims, either through authorised local organisations working on the ground in Syria or through the Syrian Embassy in New Delhi. People can donate via https://www.indiazakat.com/campaign/11633 or can directly contribute to an NGO in Turkey via IHH Humanitarian Relief Foundation - https://ihh.org.tr/en
