Role of museums in preserving heritage stressed at summit
HYDERABAD: Union minister for culture and tourism G. Kishan Reddy said museums were a great means to preserve, propagate and perpetuate India’s rich cultural heritage. The minister was speaking at the first-of-its-kind global summit on ‘Reimagining Museums in India’ in the city on Tuesday.
“Prime Minister Narendra Modi has given us the mantra of Vikas and Virasat. With this vision for Vikas, we are ensuring that the poor receive the benefits of development and with Virasat we protect our wonderful heritage,” he said.
People from Australia, France, Italy, Singapore, the United Arab Emirates, the United Kingdom and the United States are taking part in the two-day virtual summit, which is being organised as part of ‘Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav’. Alberto Gariandini, president, International Council of Museums, in his inaugural address said, “The museums of the future are already being built and museum professionals are creating new connections with communities and experimenting with innovative forms of cultural engagement.”
