Establishment of Consumer Information Cells hailed

Vijayawada: The Forum for Better Bapatla (FFBB) welcomed the AP government’s decision to establish Mandal Consumer Information Cells in all mandals to educate the public on consumer rights. FFBB secretary P.C. Sai Babu said that it was heartening to note that the state government was planning in a big way to create awareness among consumers about their rights. He further said that thousands of consumers across the state were being deceived every day due to unfair trade practices. He deplored that due to ignorance, many people were compromising on the quality, purity, weight, and price of the goods they buy and were also unable to approach consumer commissions for the redressal of their grievances.

Sai Babu said that in light of these facts, the government was setting up Mandal Consumer Information Cells in all mandals. He said that these cells were expected to disseminate information on the new Consumer Protection Act, 2019 and educate the public about the accessible redressal mechanism provided in the Act. He stated that these cells would also encourage and guide the aggrieved consumers to file cases with consumer commissions. He added that the cells would also form consumer clubs in schools and colleges, as well as collaborate with voluntary consumer organisations and ward secretariats to carry out consumer awareness programmes.
