High Court stays move to shift ITI college from Medchal

The bench was adjudicating a suo motu taken up PIL by converting postcards written by 132 students of the college to the Chief Justice of HC

Hyderabad: A division bench of Telangana High Court comprising Chief Justice Satish Chandra Sharma and Justice N. Tukaramji on Wednesday stayed the decision of the state government in shifting of ITI college at Medchal to a far-off place.

The bench was adjudicating a suo motu taken up PIL by converting postcards written by 132 students of the said college to the Chief Justice of the High Court. They mentioned that the state government was making all efforts to relocate the ITI college from Medchal after allocating the college land to some other organization. They contended that they were from the economically poorer strata and unable to get part- time jobs nor can they afford transportation costs.

In response, Justice Abhinand Kumar Shavili and Justice Annireddy Abhishek Reddy, members of the High Court PIL committee treated the letter as suo moto PIL.

Based on that, the High Court registry made the chief secretary, principal secretaries of employment and training department, technical education departments and principal of the ITI college at Medchal as respondents

On Wednesday, the bench felt that the students’ contention was genuine and stayed the decision of the government to shift the college. The court also made it clear to the government not to create hindrances to the smooth functioning of the college in that premises.

A detailed counter affidavit should be filed in eight weeks, the bench said.
