Sugar mill farmers paid dues

Those farmers who have not registered the cane could register it with the mill and supply the cane, the release added.

THANJAVUR/TIRUCHY: The chief executive of state government owned Arignar Anna sugar mill has said that amount for the sugarcane supplied by farmers till November 30, 2017 for the crushing season 2017-18 has been paid into the bank account of farmers by the mill.

In a press release issued here on Thursday, the officer also appealed to the farmers to supply sugarcane for the crushing season 2018-19 to the mill.
Farmers can take up cultivation of varieties like CO 86032, CO0212, CO 0403 etc so that sugar recovery may be good.

Those farmers who have not registered the cane could register it with the mill and supply the cane, the release added.

Meanwhile, nearly 2,000 workers working in 85 small industries producing stainless steel and bronze utensils, went on a strike in Kumbakonam area on Thursday demanding wage hike.

These units are situated at Kumbakonam, Darasuram, Elumichampalayam, Swamimalai, Valayapatti, Mangudi and Annalagraharam. The workers said that wage agreement between them and owners of the units has ended on September 17. They demanded a new wage agreement. They urged to link 125 per cent of the wages they got now with basic pay and add an 80 per cent hike to it.
