Vijayawada: Telugu Desam MLA from Palacole Nimmala Ramanaidu and five other TD leaders were taken into preventive custody by police at Palacole in West Godavari on Wednesday.
Ramanaidu had called for a protest in the town on Wednesday against YSR Congress government for failing to allocate TIDCO houses to beneficiaries in the last four-and-a-half years.
Following this, ruling YSRC also called for a counter protest on the same day to present facts. However, police refused permission to both parties to avoid any trouble.
Accordingly, police put the TD MLA under house arrest. However, he managed to escape and reached Ambedkar statue along with his supporters and Jana Sena activists to stage a stir.
YSRC workers too arrived to launch a counter programme. Tension started building up as both groups started raising slogans and entered into heated arguments.
In the interim, police rushed and took the MLA and five others into preventive custody. They were shifted to the police station and later released.
