New-look Secunderabad railway station will floor everyone: Kishan

There will be four-floor buildings on both the north and south sides with a double-storied sky concourse

HYDERABAD: Passengers who will be visiting Secunderabad railway station in the coming days will be surprised to find an ambience that would be on par with those seen in airports, said Union tourism minister G. Kishan Reddy here on Monday.

He was speaking after a detailed review on the redevelopment plan of the station, which he visited. The new station building will be equipped with ultra-modern facilities, including electronic sign boards on all platforms for the convenience of passengers. The redevelopment is costing the railways Rs 700 crore approximately, he said.

There will be four-floor buildings on both the north and south sides with a double-storied sky concourse. The new design of the station will ensure seamless movement of passengers from one mode to another.

In addition, it will soon boast of multi-level and underground parking facilities to ensure smooth movement of vehicles.

Reddy said “the Centre is committed to the development of Telangana State and is taking several initiatives in this regard. Secunderabad Railway station will soon become the best railway station in Telangana with modern facilities and improved architectural design. The project is being undertaken in a phased manner so as to avoid any disruption to train movements. The infrastructural facilities will meet the requirements of passengers for the next 40 years.”

He added “The redevelopment works will be undertaken in three phases. The first phase will be completed in 16 months, the second phase in 28 months and the third phase in 36 months. The new station building will have 26 lifts, 32 escalators and a number of travelators for easy movement of passengers in the station.”
