150 Kannur Medical College admissions off
Kochi: The Admission Supervisory Committee headed by Justice J.M. James on Monday struck down the admissions to 150 MBBS seats in Kannur Medical College and made own admission in consultation with the Commissioner of Entrance Examinations to 100 seats in Karuna Medical College, Palakkad, on the strength of a Kerala High Court order. The High Court had recently asked the committee to look into the admission of these two medical colleges which were challenging the government by not signing any agreement with it, and take an appropriate decision. The commission in its order said that Kannur Medical College had failed to maintain the triple tests laid down by the Supreme Court and had deliberately violated the court and committee orders.
There is complete lack of transparency in the admission in 2016-17 by the college and hence the admission has been set aside. It asked the Registrar, Kerala University of Health Sciences, not to register these 150 students admitted by the college. The committee approved the final admission to 100 MBBS seats of Karuna Medical College observing that it has been filled up observing merit and reservation and maintaining inter se merit and transparency. Justice James told DC that after the HC asked the committee to look into the Karuna admission, merit and transparency was ensured by picking eligible candidates from among 131 applicants to the seats. The case by the two colleges is set to come in the SC on Tuesday.
