THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Thiruvananthapuram experienced steady showers on Friday evening and Saturday as the South West Monsoon continued. As per IMD officials, the South West Monsoon will extend for a few more days and steady rainfall was expected until Monday. It seems to be parting kick as the rainy season departs. The monsoon has already withdrawn from North India.
The rain deficit came down to around 8 per cent in the state by September last week as against around 12 per cent deficit in the capital. If the rains continue to lash with the same vigour, it is likely that the state may receive get a surplus monsoon. While massive flooding was not experienced in Thiruvananthapuram city due to mediocre showers that continued until afternoon, several trees were uprooted in the suburbs of Neyyatinkara. KSEB electric poles fell at several locations such as Thycaud, Kannettumukku and Murinjapalam. Traffic snarls occurred on the airport road as the four-wheeler density increased.

Rain conceals accident victim’s cry
A two-wheeler rider who met with an accident inside the KSRTC parking lot at Thampanoor had a harrowing experience after his cries could not be heard outside due to the heavy downpour in the morning. The victim identified as Arun, 24, of Thirumala lay bleeding for an hour. The bike he had parked fell on his leg and a spring from its side stand pierced his shin. Finally, another two-wheeler rider who came to park his bike in the multi-level lot alerted the fire force at around 11pm, around an hour after the accident. The victim was freed with a hydraulic cutter and admitted to Medical College Hospital by a team led by Chenkalchoola Station House officer G Suresh Kumar.
