Scholar faces Kerala Women's Commission heat for sharing mobile number

Kochi: Social scientist J. Devika was in for trouble after she shared the personal number of Kerala State Women's Commission chairperson M.C. Josephine on the Facebook for starting an SMS campaign on the Hadiya case. "The chairperson started receiving several annoying calls after the number was circulated through the Facebook and the SWC filed a complaint with the police a month ago. The complaint was not against Devika and her name was mentioned only in connection with the Facebook post," said a spokesperson of the SWC.

The case was not pursued by the SWC as the annoying calls and messages stopped after filing the complaint, he added. Devika said in a Facebook post on Saturday that she had sought the official number of the SWC chairperson for starting the SMS campaign. According to Devika, she called the SWC office and asked for the official number of the chairperson and the number was given by someone in the office. "No one told me that this was her personal number," she added.
