Grandparents distressed over missing child in Texas
KOCHI: While rumours are rife over the missing of Sherin Mathews, 3, an Indian- American child who was living in Texas with her parents who had adopted her, the grandparents of the child in Kochi are in distress. The child's parents, Wesley Mathews and Sini Mathews, are from Kerala though the child was adopted from an orphanage in Bihar. Wesley's parents Sam Mathews and his wife Valsamma are living in a residential colony at Vyttila in Kochi. They are distressed by the contradicting media reports on the incident and prefer not to talk to the reporters. Some regional language dailies have reported that the girl is dead.
It was in July 2016 that Wesley Mathews and Sini Mathews had adopted Sherin from an orphanage in Bihar though they already had a biological child. Meanwhile, police in Texas have expanded the area of search for Sherin after it was revealed that the family's SUV was missing on the morning the girl vanished, according to Daily News. The Richardson police department said the SUV was not at home from 4 a.m. to 5 a.m. on October 7 and Sherin was last seen by her father around 3 a.m.
The police are also in search of surveillance footage of the vehicle as they hope people within a 30-minute radius can spot the vehicle in their footage. The girl's father, who was arrested and released later on a bond, said he had told the girl to stand near a large tree in the backyard. When he went outside 15 minutes later, she was gone.
