Change name in SSLC book with gazette note
Thiruvananthapuram: The State Human Rights Commission has permitted changing one's name in the SSLC book on a gazette notification. After the notification, students have to apply to the secretary of the Commissioner for Government Examinations of the DPI functioning from the Pareeksha Bhavan through their school. The commission acting chairperson P. Mohandas, on a complaint of Shefin Kowdiar, directed the commissioner to make changes and return the book.
His name SSLC and higher secondary certificates had remained the same even after a gazette notification and paying the fee. The commissioner explained that clerical errors in certificates of name, caste, and religion could be corrected by submitting an application, producing the relevant records, and paying the fee. A copy should be maintained along with the SSLC book in case of name changed through gazette notification as per rules, the explanation said.
However, the complaint said that in case of those seeking employment or pursuing higher education outside the country, attaching a gazette notification for name change along with SSLC book created a lot of suspicions. The commission accepted this argument and held laws and rules should be interpreted in a pro-people manner.
