Dr. Ravishankar's appointment is considered part of Jagan Mohan Reddy's strategic interest to make Vizag the administrative capital of AP

VISAKHAPATNAM: Dr. A. Ravishankar on Thursday took charge as the new police commissioner of Visakhapatnam.
Addressing a press conference on the occasion, he said his priority will be women’s safety and traffic problems in Visakhapatnam.
“Within a week, I will review all cases of the city, including West Bengal student Riti Saha's controversial death,” the commissioner underlined.
He further said: “I think Visakhapatnam is going to be the administrative capital of Andhra Pradesh. That is why, Vizag Commissionerate is about to be upgraded.”
Dr. Ravishankar said he will request Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy to create a post of joint police commissioner for Visakhapatnam, as the commissionerate needs additional posts.
The new commissioner had previously served as additional DGP of Law and Order for a long time, overseeing enforcement of law across entire Andhra Pradesh. His tenure is expected to enhance the security infrastructure in Visakhapatnam.
Incidentally, Dr. Ravishankar’s wife, Dr. Sumita Shankar is a plastic surgeon. She is presently director of Research and Development at Dr. YSR University of Health Sciences.
Sources said CM Jagan may consider Dr. Sumita Shankar’s appointment as the head of Plastic Surgery Department in Andhra Medical College, Visakhapatnam.
Dr. Ravishankar’s appointment is considered part of Jagan Mohan Reddy’s strategic interest to make Visakhapatnam the administrative capital of Andhra Pradesh. In light of this transition, the Visakhapatnam police commissioner’s post has already been elevated to the rank of additional director general of police.
