Free medical treatment for Koraga tribal community to continue

Udupi: Karnataka Chief Minister has assured to continue the free medical treatment scheme for the Koraga tribal community under the Arogya Nidhi scheme.

The Koraga tribal community is predominantly concentrated in Udupi and Dakshina Kannada districts of Karnataka. They are identified as a Particularly Vulnerable Tribal Group (PVTG).

The grant under the ‘Arogya Nidhi,’ scheme provides free treatment at empaneled private hospitals for the Koraga community people since 2008. This helped the members of the community to a great extent. But as per an order issued in August the financial grant to the PVTG was discontinued.

Udupi MLA Raghupathi Bhat had taken up the issue and the brought it into the notice of the government. He took up the issue during the Assembly session and he met the Chief Minister today and requested him to continue the scheme.

“The Chief Minister has promised to issue a fresh government order to continue the scheme for the PVTG,” Bhat told reporters.
