Thiruvananthapuram: The LDF government will give priority to solving the problems faced by special-needs children and their teachers. This promise was made by Mr M. V. Jayarajan, private secretary to Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, when five organisations submitted memorandums to him on their various demands here on Monday. “We will take up their demands without delay and hold discussions with various ministries,” Mr Jayarajan told DC.

Earlier, thousands of special school teachers and special-needs students observed a seven-hour fast in front of the secretariat raising their grievances. Social activist Daya Bai, who inaugurated the fast, flayed the LDF government for not fulfilling the promises given to the special needs children and their teachers.

Five organisations--Association for Intellectually Disabled (AID), Special Olympics Bharat (SOB), Special School Employees Union (SSEU) Parivar and Association for the Welfare of Special School Staff (ASWAS) submitted memorandums to Mr V. S. Achuthanandan, chairman of administrative reforms commission, also.

Father Roy Vadakkel, director of Asha Nilayam Special School for Mentally Challenged Children at Ponkunnam in Kottayam district, said they will intensify the protest if the government does not pay heed to their long-standing demands.
