Swimming turned tragic, three boys drown in Anekal
Bengaluru: For a group of four boys their plan to learn swimming turned tragic, after three of them drowned in Hennagar lake near Anekal in Jigani police station limits on Sunday noon.
The incident took place around 3.15 pm and it took nearly two hours for the Fire and Emergency Department officials to fish out their bodies. The deceased have been identified as Ganesh, (8), Chetan (8) and Santhosh, (11), all residents of Rajapura in Anekal.
While Chetan was a student of a government school in Jigani, Santhosh was a student of Vivekanada School in Chandapura and Ganesh was a student of Vrindavan School. They all were said to be studying in grade 5, police said.
According to Jigani police, the incident came to light around 4.30 pm when Chandan, who didn’t venture into the lake rushed to his home and informed his parents about the incident. They informed the police, who along with fire and rescue personnel rushed to the spot and fished out the bodies. Police said that the bodies got stuck in the silt and bushes in the lake bed.
“Upon receiving information, police rushed to the spot along with fire rescue personnel and carried out a search operation. The parents of the three boys were also informed and they reached the spot. The rescue team managed to fish out the bodies around 5.45 pm following which they were sent to Anekal government hospital for post-mortem.,” said a police officer.
Preliminary investigation revealed that the four friends had left for Hennagar Lake around 3 pm. While Chandan chose to stay away from water, Chetan, Ganesh and Santhosh ventured into the lake. The trio soon found it difficult to stay afloat and drowned, police said.
