HYDERABAD: A techie and her partner, accused of killing the former’s husband at Abdullapurmet in 2013, walked out of jail after being freed for want of evidence against them. During the investigation, police claimed to have arrested the two and another person, who had helped them in killing the victim, with the help of CCTV and mobile records evidence and filed charges against them accordingly.
However, the failure of the cops in producing evidence before the court resulted in their acquittal.
The XI additional district and sessions court at LB Nagar, while delivering the verdict in the case on June 15, said that there was no evidence against the accused and set them free.
During the investigation, police found that one of the accused had purchased a knife from a mall, which was used as a murder weapon. Though the knife was recovered from the accused, CCTV footage showing the purchase of the knife was not collected nor were fingerprints on the knife taken.
Further, police found multiple calls between the victim’s wife and her partner, leading to the detection of the case, but no call data record was filed before the court.
“To prove the presence of the accused at the scene of offence, the investigation officer could have at least collected evidence through the mobile location, but the same has not been done,” observed the court.
In addition, after the offence the victim’s wife got admitted to hospital, claiming that some unidentified persons attacked and robbed them and killed her husband. But nobody from the hospital was examined. Further, the medico-legal certificate (MLC) showing her treatment also was contradictory. The court viewed that taken from any standpoint, the fact is that there is no evidence against the accused, said the court.
