HC allows former SEC to apply afresh to be voter at Duggirala

Vijayawada: The Andhra Pradesh High Court allowed former state election commissioner Nimmagadda Ramesh Kumar to apply afresh to be registered as a voter in the electoral rolls and directed the authorities concerned to take a decision on his application at an appropriate time.

A single-judge bench headed by Justice Ch. Manavendranath Roy, in an order, permitted the former SEC to apply to be registered as a voter at Duggirala in Guntur district afresh.

Earlier, when the former SEC submitted an application form to be registered as a voter at Duggirala, his application was rejected on some grounds, and he challenged it in the High Court in 2021. In his plea, he submitted that he enrolled as a voter at Duggirala initially and subsequently got transferred to Hyderabad. He said that soon after his retirement from the service, he approached the election authorities concerned to register him as a voter at his native place, Duggirala, and claimed that the officials failed to give proper reasons for rejecting his application to register him as a voter.
