Udupi seals borders to curb spread of coronavirus

The inter-district and inter-state goods transport will not be affected

In a move to rein in the speed of COVID in the district, Udupi district administration has decided to seal its borders for 14 days from July 15 to 29.
Deputy Commissioner G Jagadeesh told reporters that the decision was after the discussions with the experts on Monday evening and the elected representatives on Tuesday morning.

Based on this the district administration has decided to seal its borders from 8 pm of July 15. However, the inter-district and inter-state goods transport will not be affected.

The district administration has allowed people to enter and leave the district by July 15, 8 pm. There would be no bus service, no political, religious, and social events during seal down. No public celebrations of festivals too.

The expert committee had said that Lockdown should be the last resort when there are not enough medical facilities. But the district already has 1,100 beds for COVID patients. Apart from this 1,800 beds are identified as COVID Care centers which can be activated whenever necessary. Also, 50 percent of beds in 21 private hospitals are available for COVID patients.

The private hospital beds would be used once 70 percent of beds of the government hospital are filled.

The DC said that seal down is being imposed as most of the cases were seen among those who come from outside.

On Home isolation of COVID patients, he said that 20 people were under Home isolation. If the medical team is satisfied with the facilities at the house, they would permit Home isolation for the COVID patients. Officials would keep a tab on their health. If there is any variation in the health, they need to visit the hospital immediately.
