Kerala State Road Transport Corporation favours Infopark techies

The decision was taken following an open forum convened at the Infopark campus on Thursday evening to address travelling woes.

Kochi: There is a good news for techies as the Kerala State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) is set to operate week-end long haul AC low-floor services from Infopark to destinations such as Kozhikode, Palakkad and Thiruvananthapuram. “We’ll start the Palakkad service by next week and the remaining by this month end. A lot of software employees are going to their home town during week-ends. Similarly, there will be services from these destinations to Infopark on Mondays. The service to Thiruvananthapuram will be via Kottayam, Kottarakkara route,” said a senior KSRTC official.

The decision was taken following an open forum convened at the Infopark campus on Thursday evening to address travelling woes. Infopark CEO Hrishikesh Nair, KSRTC zonal officer S. K. Suresh Kumar and KURTC special officer Rajendran attended the meet besides over 100 representatives from various IT companies. The meet decided to set up a ‘Transport Forum’ after including the local MLA too, to address the transport woes faced by hundreds of techies.

“Currently many complain of being exploited by auto and taxi drivers who charge a minimum Rs 40 to travel even to Kakkanad from the Infopark campus, hardly three kms. The KSRTC officials agreed to operate Kakkanad-Infopark services during the morning (8 am to 10 am) and evening peak hours (5 pm to 8 pm) at an interval of 20 minutes,” said Dipin Varghese, a techie. Though the KSRTC officials requested to allot dedicated parking space or space for a sub-depot inside Infopark campus, Nair said the same could not be allocated due to campus laws.
