5.5 acre land encroached in Kallayi
KOZHIKODE: Revenue officials found that 5.5 acres of revenue land in Kallayi was encroached while conducting a survey on Thursday and Friday. On Friday alone, officials found 4.5 acres of land was illegally possessed by private persons. The survey was conducted as part of the district administration’s project of evicting those who had encroached government land in Kallayi River area. The encroachments were found in the City and Kasaba villages.
The revenue department officials found 27 buildings situated on encroached land. Kozhikode Municipal Corporation officials have been told by the revenue department to lay border stones on the land found encroached . Apart from the City and Kasaba villages, surveys have been conducted over a 6.5 kilometre stretch in Elathur, Puthiyangadi and Vengeri villages near Cannolly Canal.
District Collector U.V. Jose, who visited while the survey was under process in Kallayi, said that all steps would be taken to see that no further encroachments took place in the area. “The Survey will be continued till July last week. After the detailed survey, we will prepare a comprehensive master plan for the development of Cannoly Canal and submit it to the state government,” he added. The survey was led by Tehsildar E Anitha Kumari, Village officers Umakanth , T Baburaj among others. The Collector added that the renovated SM Street would be inaugurated as part of Onam celebrations. He also visited SM Street and reviewed the renovation work.
