Kollam blast culprits still at large

Agencies had concluded groups outside state might have links with blast

KOLLAM: The police are yet to zero in on the culprits behind the blast that rocked the Kollam court complex last month though extremist groups within and outside the state have been put under the scanner. An NIA team along with ATS team from Hyderabad and the Q-Branch from Tirunelveli had come to help the state police in the investigations. The team failed to collect any clues from the CCTVs installed on the collectorate premises adjacent to the court complex, as they were non-functional.

From the modus operandi and the device used for the blast, the agencies had concluded that groups outside the state might have links with the incident. An improvised electronic device (IED) had exploded at the parking area of the court complex in the Kollam collectorate by 10.50 a.m. on June 14 leaving a person injured.

The blast was intended to announce the presence and their capacity to undertake such missions. The police have planned to bring the case under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act. An NIA team along with central bomb squad team is camping in the district to aid the local police.
