Rs 25 lakh to rebuild house of Leela Gulati
Thiruvananthapuram: The state cabinet has sanctioned Rs 25 lakh to protect the compound wall and renovate the house of Leela Gulati, wife of the late economist I.S. Gulati, at Chettikunnu, near Kumarapuram. Two weeks ago, Leela Gulati had highlighted the plight of her house which had suffered damage due to the excavation of earth near it by a builder.
It may be recalled that criminal proceedings were slapped against the builder. The cabinet also decided to give additional charge of port to additional chief secretary (revenue) P. H. Kurian. Additional chief secretary James Varghese, who was also the port secretary, had requested the government to relieve him from his duties after the CAG report came against the Vizhinjam project.He too had come under a cloud in the CAG report.
PWD principal secretary Dr. Asha Thomas has been appointed as managing director of Roads and Bridges Development Corporation. Mr Biju Prabhakar, who had gone on leave while serving as agriculture director, has been appointed as special secretary of PWD.
The medical expenses of Rs 5.89 lakh incurred for the treatment of trade union leader and former MP, the late P. Viswambharan, will be borne by the government. The cabinet also sanctioned Rs 1 lakh each for the families of five people killed in the Kumbalam bridge mishap.
