TTDC to come out with apps in 8 languages
Chennai: Aiming to revolutionise the concept of travel, the Tamil Nadu Tourism Development Corporation (TTDC), has embarked on an ambitious plan to develop mobile apps for all the exotic spots in TN in eight languages including English and French, soon.
This is for the first time, the state owned enterprise is attempting to foray into a domain hitherto not thought of by many government tourism boards in India. The app, it is said will help to attract more Indian and international visitors to explore the state. Provision for “Start GPS navigation” will be incorporated in the mobile app to facilitate transportation icon to appear at the bottom right corner of the screen. All one has to do is to activate it by tapping and holding it to activate the GPS navigation.
Interestingly, one can create “wishlist” in the Apps to store the must-see places and its links on the mobiles. The mobile apps, according to sources, would be created keeping in mind the needs of the traveler and the pages would be liked to those on the corporation’s official website. “It will be created to help the tourists explore tourist spots by just keeping the marker on the desired location and clicking it, which in turn shows complete details of the location including its main attraction spots, ratings and photos,” an official said and added the users could have different options of transportation like car, private-public transport or walk.
The app concept, which is the brainchild of tourism commissioner H. S. Meena, will be brought out in eight languages — English, Tamil, Hindi, Telugu, Kannada, Malayalam, Marathi and French and would cover all the major tourist spots in Tamil Nadu and the particulars would be hosted on the same on webserver.
Presently, the TTDC is scouting for a software firm that would design the mobile apps compatible with playstore, istore and windows store. It will have all the information related to Tamil Nadu tourism.
