Palakkad: RSS-BJP workers attacked three media persons on the premises of Ottapalam Magistrate Court in Palakkad on Tuesday afternoon while they were shooting the visuals of three BJP worker, who were arrested by Cherpulassery police for attacking houses of CPM men at Nellaya here. The incident happened on Tuesday afternoon, when the journalists tried to record visuals of three BJP workers who were being brought to the judicial first class magistrate court in Ottapalam.
Asianet News senior reporter Shyam Kumar, Reporter TV scribe Sreejith and local channel’s cameraperson Anoop were the three media persons who were attacked. Their cameras were also damaged by the RSS-BJP men. The media persons later sought medical aid at the Ottapalam Taluk Hospital.
Police at Ottapalam station said that cases have been slapped on two RSS/BJP workers invoking several sections of IPC including non-bailable sections like 308 for attempt to commit culpable homicide. A person identified as an RSS functionary was seen threatening the media persons of severe consequences for shooting their visuals. “Even without an MLA and a BJP-led government at the Centre we have engaged in violence,” the RSS functionary was heard saying.
