Metro train will chug off in April, says E Sreedharan
Thiruvananthapuram: Kochi Metro Rail will be completed by April 2017, Delhi Metro Rail Corporation chief advisor E. Sreedharan told reporters here on Tuesday after a meeting with Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan. He said Mr Vijayan had sought a detailed note on the progress on the light metros in Kozhikode and Thiruvananthapuram, and the priority was to complete the Kochi Metro in a time bound manner.
“Today’s meeting was just a courtesy call. Detailed talks on the light metros would be held later,” he said. Mr Sreedharan had been to Malaysia and China to study their light metro systems as Thiruvananthapuram and Kozhikode are expected to have more curves on tracks.
DMRC sources said they would take a decision on the rolling stock containing three coaches, like that of Kochi Metro, with better manoeuvrability, only after finalising technical parameters. The Thiruvananthapuram Light Metro line will start from Technocity and terminate at Karamana covering a distance of 22.537 km with 19 stations, along the old NH 47, and it is expected to complete in three phases.
