Dr G Parameshwar comes out with slew of reforms for Karnataka police
Bengaluru: The government has decided to phase out trained constables from being deputed as orderlies in senior officers' houses. Instead, the government will separately recruit Class D employees to be posted as helpers to senior officers said Home Minister G. Parameshwar here on Tuesday.
After a meeting with senior officers on proposed reforms in the police department, Dr Parameshwar said that the government in principle has agreed to do away with the orderly jobs. There were complaints that trained constables were forced to do household chores.
As senior officers still need some help in their houses, like attending to phone calls and other small works, the government will recruit Group-D employees for such jobs, he said.
On the demands of policemen to increase their salaries, he said that a five-member committee has been formed to study salary structures in different state and make recommendations, which will be forwarded to the pay commission.
The government has also requested the finance department to pay a risk allowance to police personnel. As there was a complaint against the quality of ration supplied to them, the government has decided to remit the subsidy to their accounts directly, he said.
The meeting also decided to pay extra to policemen who work on gazetted holidays. Besides, senior officers cannot deny their CLs, ELs and sick leaves without valid reasons. If there is a vacancy, the promotion should be done within fortnight, he said.
Malleswaram blast: Dr Parameshwar refused to speak on the arrest of a Malleswaram blast suspect in Tamil Nadu who also happens to be a former panchayat president.
“This is an extremely sensitive case and still under investigation. I cannot reveal any details at this juncture,” he said.
