Unaccounted cash found after fire accident

HYDERABAD: A fire accident in a residential building at Regimental Bazaar in Secunderabad on Saturday night led to the recovery of unaccounted cash with a value of ₹1.65 crore.

Fire officials said that the blaze, which started at a residence on the ground floor, was controlled within half four.

The incident led to a large number of people gathering at the residence of B. Srinivas, who was away on vacation with his family.

Meanwhile, the police were tipped off about a huge amount of currency stashed in the house.

A team from the Gopalpuram Police Station rushed to the spot, but was obstructed by the owner’s relatives. The police dispersed them and in the presence of government officials, entered the house.

While checking the first floor, which was unaffected by the fire, the police found currency bundles stacked in a cupboard, which amounted to ₹1.65 crores.

“The matter was informed to the Income Tax Department and the cash was also handed over to them for further action,” said SI G. Anil Kumar.
