Energy efficiency at 70 EHT substations in Vijayawada Zone

VIJAYAWADA: AP Transco joint managing director K.V.N. Chakradhar Babu on Sunday said the transmission corporation is implementing energy-efficiency measures at 70 extra high tension (EHT) substations in Vijayawada zone.

This is leading to estimated savings of around 2.58 million units per annum, worth ₹1.87 crore.

Chakradhar Babu explained that Transco has taken up energy-efficiency measures at 158 EHT substations at various locations in the state with support from Andhra Pradesh State Energy Conservation Mission (APSECM) and AP State Energy Efficiency Development Corporation (APSEEDCO).

Addressing a virtual review meeting on infrastructure development, the AP Transco JMD said the corporation has replaced old electrical appliances of its EHT substations with energy-efficient appliances such as 9W (Watt) LED bulbs, 20 W LED tube lights, high-efficiency BLDC (Brushless Direct Current) fans, 70 W & 110 W yard lights and 190 W flood lights.

Chakradhar Babu said AP Transco has entered into an MoU with APSECM and provided funding support for the implementation of energy-efficiency measures in 70 EHT substations in Guntur, Ongole, Krishna, and Nellore circles of the state. In addition, Transco, in coordination with AP APSEEDCO, has taken up energy-efficiency measures at 69 EHT substations in Visakhapatnam zone and at 102 EHT substations in Kadapa zone.

Special chief secretary (Energy) K. Vijayanand said energy efficiency is one of the most powerful tools to achieve the objective of AP Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy to make Andhra Pradesh a destination for cost-effective power, which will further promote growth and job creation in Andhra Pradesh.
