SSLC batchmates relive old memories

The old classmates were particular to hold the school assembly and sing the old prayer.

KOCHI: It was a dream-come-true for the students of 1972-73 SSLC batch to come back and meet on the campus of St Thomas High School, Thiroor, Thrissur the other day. Into their late 50s, they have either a retiring life or are on the verge of retirement, but recalling the young days was a rare experience for all.
They included famed musician Venki Iyer living in Canada who came along with his son Abhishek Iyer, who is a playback singer in Bollywood. Of the 180 students of the batch, 130 people from different parts of the world participated in the get-together while 11 are no more.

Other eminent persons who participated in the get-together were proponent of Ayyappan Thiyyatt song and former head of Ottapalam NSS College commerce department Prof T, N. Krishnan, K. M. Bhasi who led the Santosh Trophy team of Kerala and another sportsperson V. K Subramanian, eminent lawyer P. S. Eswaran and principal, Salsabeel Central School, Mundur, C. A. Francis. Sr Joel who was the private secretary of Mother Teresa, currently working for the rehabilitation of leprosy patients in Jharkhand, was congratulated on the occasion by her former classmates. She could not attend the meet and her message to her friends was read out by her sister Shanty Tony.

The old classmates were particular to hold the school assembly and sing the old prayer. They also took the old pledge. The alumni meet was inaugurated by 94-year-old headmaster C. P. Antony Master. The assembly was controlled by the then school prime minister M. G. Balakrishnan, who retired as sub-inspector of Kerala Police.
